Midata lets you download information about how much energy you've used and how much we think you'll use in the future. This makes it easy to compare your current energy deal with other deals on the market to find the best one for you. It's a government scheme you can find out more about on the Business, Innovation and Skills website.

Getting your midata information

To get your data, you’ll need to have an online account and have had an annual summary from us. Log in to your account, and open the energy product you want to get midata for. Then select 'View your usage' and you'll see the 'Get your midata' accordion.

If you have gas and electricity with us, you'll need to view the usage for each account to get your data. If you haven't got an online account with us, you can register for one using the link at the bottom of the page. But remember, if you haven't had an annual summary yet, you won't have anything in your midata file.

How midata works

Your midata will be downloaded as a CSV file. This works best with a spreadsheet programme like Microsoft Office Excel. The file makes it much easier to compare your energy deal on other websites as forms will be auto-populated with your data. If you have a tariff that has more than one rate, like Economy 7, your usage will show as one overall figure. It won't be broken down into 'Day' and 'Night' for example.

Your midata information will be updated once a year, after your annual statement has been produced. It’s a good idea to give us regular meter readings to make sure your information is as accurate as possible. You can give us meter readings on your online account whenever you want.
