Paying your bill

Women checking paperwork

There are lots of ways to pay your bill. You can check your balance and review the payments you've made by logging in to your online account.

Direct Debits and standing orders

Monthly Direct Debit

The easiest and cheapest way to pay is by a monthly Direct Debit on a date that suits you. Your costs are spread evenly over the year and you'll get a discount of £40 per fuel (deducted from your standing charge). We'll review your payments each year to make sure they're just right.

Variable Direct Debit

A variable Direct Debit lets you pay your bill in full each quarter. Your bill shows the amount and date the payment will be taken from your bank account. You'll get a discount of £40 per fuel (deducted from your standing charge).

Standing Orders

You can also pay by a standing order. All you need to do is contact us so we can recommend the amount you need to pay and send you a standing order form to fill in. We'll review the amount you're paying and let you know if you're paying the right amount.

Paying when you get your bill

Paying by card

You can make a payment quickly and securely using a debit or credit card through your online account. You can also pay by calling 0345 704 5038. There's a 1.5% handling fee for each transaction you make with a credit card.

Paying by cheque or postal order

If you'd like to pay by cheque or postal order, please make them payable to 'SSE' and write your gas and/or electricity account number on the back. Fill in the payment slip at the bottom of your bill and send it with your cheque or postal order to: SSE, PO Box 13, Havant, PO9 5JB. Please don't send cash.

Paying by text

Paying by text message is quick, easy and secure. We'll text you to let you know how much your bill is, and ask you to text back when you're ready to pay. We'll process your payment using the card details we hold. To find out more or to set this up, please text 'YES' to 07786 200 270 or email us at text.enquiries@sse.com. Please include your name, mobile number, house name/number and postcode.

You can pay your bills with one of our swipe cards. A Paygo swipe card is a flexible payment option which allows you to pay as much as you'd like on dates that suit you. You'll need to pay the total balance before your next bill arrives. You can also pay with a monthly swipe card, paying an agreed amount on a set date each month. Please contact us to set up a swipe card.

If you have a Pay As You Go meter, you pay in advance for what you use with a top up key or card. You can buy credit from your local Post Office or Paypoint.
