Everyone might need a little help to keep on top of their energy bills sometimes. If you’re struggling, our Priority Assistance fund may be able to help with debt relief, free benefit entitlement checks and energy efficiency and saving advice. We want to help you with your debts and give you the best advice to stay debt free.

Qualifying for the Priority Assistance fund

To qualify for help from the Priority Assistance Fund, you must meet at least two of the following criteria:

  • Your household income must be less than £16,200 per year after tax
    We don't include the following benefits in your income:
    - Housing & Council Tax benefit
    - Child Benefit
    - Child Tax Credit
    - Disability Living Allowance
    - Personal Independence Payment
    - Carer’s Allowance
    - Child Disability living Allowance
    - Attendance Allowance 
    - Industrial Injuries 
  • You spend 10% or more of your household income on energy

    To work this out, divide the total cost of your energy used over the past 12 months by your total annual household income. Then multiply by 100.

    For example if you've used £1,200 of energy last year, and you have a household income of £10,000; the sum would be:
    (1200 ÷ 10000) x 100 = 12%

    In this case your spending 12% of our income on energy, and would meet the criteria.

  • You have “vulnerability” in your household
    This means you have someone of Pensionable Age, a Child Under 17, chronic sickness or disability.
