Increasing prices is one of the hardest decisions any business has to take, particularly in difficult economic conditions, so we are very sorry that we’ve had to announce an increase from 15 October 2012. Last September, we promised not to increase prices for a year and we kept our word. And in March 2012, we lowered our gas prices, protecting you from the rising costs of supplying the energy you need.
You may be aware that as an energy company, we have a responsibility to secure the gas and electricity we need to supply to our customers in advance. The energy we have bought for this coming winter has cost us more than it did for the previous winter. Added to this, we have also faced an increase in the cost of using the electricity and gas networks, and the environmental and social schemes we are obliged to implement.
Our price promise to you
We can assure you there will be no more price increases before the second half of 2013^ but we will reduce our prices if we can. This is our price promise to you. By making this promise we hope we have shown our commitment to doing what we can to keep energy affordable.
